I’m ready to bring a new perspective to SLC Public Schools.
Meet Jennifer
a fresh voice for precinct 6.
In 2010, my husband and I moved to Salt Lake City, immediately fell in love with it here, and decided to call this beautiful place our forever home.
Our son arrived in 2022 and he’ll enter the SLC Public School System in a few (way-too-short) years, so I decided this was my chance to get more involved in this community. Over the past year, I’ve been attending School Board meetings, networking throughout the community, and learning about the concerns of teachers, administration, parents, and students.
I grew up in the Detroit Public School System, so I’m familiar with teachers and administration doing amazing things in not-so-amazing circumstances. I understand the importance of everyone getting a fair shot at an excellent education and I’m ready to support schools and families across the Salt Lake City School District.
Fun fact
I was the representative for the College of Communication Arts & Sciences in the Michigan State University Student Government. I used my writing skills and knowledge of the student government budget to submit an article to the campus’ State News setting the record straight on concerns about our budget distribution.
what i stand for
my top priorities
priority 01
Closing the Learning Gap
Learning gaps happen before kindergarten and those gaps continue to grow during summers. This has been linked to inequities in resources during those times. Pre-K and summer programs are expensive and unattainable for many of our district’s families, so I will support policies that help all students thrive outside of the regular school year.
priority 02
Equity & Opportunity
Every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued at school. The reality is that sometimes, school is their safe space. We need to take that seriously. Every student should have a fair shot at reaching their full potential, so I will push for the resources and support students, regardless of their language, ability, identity, family circumstances, or background, need to thrive and succeed.
priority 03
Mental Health Support
We’ve recently seen cuts to mental health resources in our district. This is unacceptable. I understand the importance of these programs because I was once the kid who needed them, but didn’t have them. A child cannot be ready to learn until they can shed any burden holding them back. I will work with the board to find ways to prevent further cuts and fight to build up these resources.
